What to Expect at Your First Visit

Your initial appointment is a 55–60 minute, one-on-one session with your physical therapist. We’ll talk through your symptoms, medical history, and goals, then perform a personalized assessment. This may include posture, breathing, strength, mobility, and gentle hands-on assessment of areas such as the hips, low back, abdomen, pelvis, and legs.

If appropriate, and with your full consent, we may also assess the pelvic floor muscles using a gentle internal exam to better understand muscle tone, tenderness, and coordination.

We’ll finish by reviewing your findings, creating a customized treatment plan, and giving you clear guidance for next steps and home exercises. Your comfort, privacy, and consent guide every part of your care.

  • PT who “dabbles” in pelvic health or has taken only one specialty class
  • 30–40 minute visits dictated by insurance companies
  • A large, open gym or curtained area for treatment
  • Bouncing between different PTs and aides
  • Cookie-cutter treatment with no hands-on care or individualized plan
  • Narrow focus on one body part because of insurance restrictions

Common questions

FAQs

How can I best prepare for my first visit?

Please have your intake form completed to the best of your ability and the consent signed. This lets us spend more time assessing and treating you. If you’re menstruating, don’t cancel — just contact us beforehand.

I've tried other PTs in the past — how are you different?

Every pelvic floor PT is different. Many of our patients have already worked with one or more prior pelvic floor PTs. We help facilitate lasting change with extensive clinical skills and 20+ years of experience.

Do I need a referral to schedule an appointment?

No — physical therapy is a direct-access service. If you’d like, we’re happy to send notes or communicate with your other medical providers.

How often should I come in, and how many sessions will I need?

Most clients start at once a week or every other week, then taper as symptoms improve. The majority see meaningful improvement within 4–6 weeks.

Is pelvic floor PT safe during pregnancy?

Yes, with appropriate precautions. We commonly help with back or pelvic pain, leakage, birth prep, and postpartum recovery education during pregnancy.

When can I start postpartum PT?

We typically begin around 4–6 weeks postpartum, or sooner with your provider’s approval. Every recovery journey is unique.
